Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried to Star in 'The Handmaid' Adaptation
In an exciting development for film enthusiasts, American actresses Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are set to star in a new adaptation of the novel The Housemaid by Freda Macfadyen. Directed by Paul Feig, the film promises to bring a gripping narrative to the big screen, showcasing the darker sides of domestic life.
Sweeney will portray Millie, a maid employed by a wealthy couple, Nina (played by Seyfried) and Andrew. As Millie settles into her new role, she uncovers dangerous family secrets that threaten to change everything. The screenplay, penned by Rebecca Sonnenschein, is based on Macfadyen's best-selling novel, which has captivated readers and maintained a position on the New York Times best-seller list for over 75 weeks.
The production team is bolstered by the talents of Todd Lieberman as producer and includes Paul Feig and Laura Fisher in key roles. Both Sweeney and Seyfried will also take on executive producer roles alongside Alex Young and the author herself, Macfadyen. Adam Fogelson, President of Film at Lionsgate, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Having a great director, a great cast, and a great script is the perfect start to any project.”
Lionsgate co-president of film Erin Westman added that Sweeney and Seyfried are ideal choices for their roles, noting their enigmatic and nuanced performances. Sweeney, known for her standout roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus, and Seyfried, recognized for her performance in The Dropout, bring significant star power to the project.
Feig, who directed the Amazon hit Jackpot!, is also set to release A Simple Favor 2 in spring 2025, making this a busy and exciting time for the acclaimed director and his cast.
