Britons Embrace Cost-Sharing for Christmas Dinner
A recent survey by NatWest reveals that nearly 27% of Britons are open to asking their Christmas dinner guests to contribute to the meal's cost. This shift in tradition comes as the average cost of Christmas dinner is projected to be around £17 ($21.50) per person, with prices potentially soaring to £19.80 in London and reaching £27 in Scotland. The survey highlights a growing trend among families to manage holiday expenses more effectively.
Strategies to Cut Holiday Costs
The survey indicates that over 53% of respondents are opting to reduce their Christmas dinner expenses by encouraging guests to bring additional dishes. Furthermore, 30% of participants reported purchasing used birthday gifts from online platforms, while 48% took advantage of sales to buy gifts. Notably, 25% of those surveyed are considering re-gifting items that do not suit them, and another 25% have decided to stop giving gifts to distant relatives. Additionally, 19% mentioned they are reducing their outings during the holiday season, and 12% are traveling less.
Financial Advice for the Festive Season
In light of these findings, NatWest has emphasized the importance of open discussions about finances among families during the holiday season. A spokesperson for the bank stated, "It's smart for families to come together and find ways to make the holiday season financially manageable." This advice resonates with many Britons who are looking to navigate the financial pressures that often accompany the festive period.
