Sudan's Attorney General Issues Arrest Warrants for Politicians Linked to War Crimes
In a significant development, Al-Fatih Tayfour, the Attorney General of Sudan, announced the issuance of arrest warrants for 16 politicians accused of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). During a meeting in Port Sudan, Tayfour clarified that these warrants pertain to criminal charges, not political ones, emphasizing that the allegations include serious offenses such as incitement to rebellion and undermining the constitutional order.
The warrants come in the wake of ongoing investigations into war crimes committed during the conflict in Sudan. Tayfour revealed that Sudanese courts have issued sentences in 79 cases against RSF members and their collaborators, with penalties ranging from the death penalty to 10 years imprisonment.
