Stade Français Takes Over Historic Camp des Loges: A New Era in Rugby
In a significant shift for sports in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Stade Français has officially taken residence at the Camp des Loges, the former training ground of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). After a year of negotiations and six months of extensive renovations, the oval ball has replaced the round one in this iconic facility. The transition was marked by an inauguration ceremony attended by key figures including Valérie Pécresse, president of the Île-de-France region, and Arnaud Péricard, the mayor of Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
The renovation, which cost approximately 5 million euros, was co-financed by the city, the region, and the rugby club itself. This investment has transformed the Camp des Loges into a state-of-the-art rugby training center, featuring two newly converted rugby pitches with hybrid turf, expanded changing rooms, and modern medical facilities designed for player rehabilitation. Additionally, a balneotherapy area with baths, sauna, and hammam has been established to enhance player recovery and wellness.
A Historic Shift: From Football to Rugby at Camp des Loges
The Camp des Loges has been synonymous with PSG for over 50 years, making this transition particularly noteworthy. The changeover marks a new chapter for Stade Français, which has already begun training at the facility since late July. During the inauguration, Thomas Lombard, the general director of Stade Français, expressed gratitude to the local authorities for their support: "This is a very important day for our club."
As Stade Français settles into its new home, the vibrant pink colors of the rugby club now dominate the surroundings, signifying a fresh start in a place that has long been a bastion of football. The transformation of the Camp des Loges not only reflects the evolving landscape of sports in the region but also showcases the commitment of local authorities to support diverse athletic endeavors.
