Sacha Houlié's Political Journey: From Macron's Ally to Independent Voice
Sacha Houlié, once a key figure in the left wing of Emmanuel Macron's camp, has decided to continue his political journey as a non-registered deputy. Houlié, who has been vocal about his vision of creating a political group that spans from the social right to the socialist left, announced his departure from the Renaissance group, now renamed Ensemble pour la République.
A New Political Movement in the Making
Despite his current solitary status, Houlié remains optimistic about forming a new political group. He mentioned that around fifteen deputies from the former Renaissance group, along with various left-wing deputies, are potential allies. Houlié also noted interest from socialist factions. He emphasized his commitment to ensuring that this group materializes in the future, aiming to represent a current that is distinct from both the radical left and the conservative right.
Advocating for Social Democracy
Houlié, co-founder of Young People with Macron, is advocating for a revival of social democracy. He believes that the political movement which elected Macron in 2017 should not be absent from political life or the National Assembly. Houlié stressed that the National Assembly should be a place to cultivate differences, not a field of ruin. He also maintained that none of the positions of responsibility in the lower house should be allocated to the National Rally, reinforcing the need for a republican front.
