Russia Develops New Drone Tracking System Amid Ongoing Conflict
As the war in Ukraine escalates, Russia is reportedly testing a new system called 'Cobra' designed to locate the pilots of Ukrainian drones. This innovative technology, resembling a gaming console, promises to provide real-time coordinates of drone operators, as stated by developers to RIA Novosti. With the increasing effectiveness of Ukrainian drones in the conflict, which have been described as sometimes more efficient than artillery, Russian forces are now prioritizing the identification of these pilots as crucial targets on the battlefield.
The 'Cobra' system is currently undergoing tests and is expected to be deployed in experimental combat missions soon. If successful, it will enter mass production. However, independent verification of the system's capabilities is still lacking. Military experts note that both Ukrainian and Russian forces are utilizing hundreds of drones daily, with advancements focusing on range, accuracy, and stealth to enhance operational effectiveness, especially during nighttime.
In a recent series of events, Russian drones targeted the Ukrainian port of Izmail for the second consecutive night, causing significant damage to port infrastructure and injuring civilians. The Ukrainian air force reported that out of 38 Iranian-designed explosive drones launched by Russia, 25 were intercepted. Debris from these attacks has raised alarms in neighboring Romania, where fragments of a downed drone were discovered, leading to heightened military readiness in the region. Romanian officials condemned these 'heinous attacks' and have engaged NATO allies for support in addressing the situation.
