The recent legislative elections in France have brought significant changes to the political landscape, especially for the Republican party. A humorous yet telling video shared by the Republicans on their X account highlights the tension within the party. In the video, a man with a megaphone stands in front of the party's Paris headquarters, calling out to Éric Ciotti to come down calmly and avoid any foolish actions. This video, produced by Bertrand Chameroy's team for the show C à Vous on France 5, reflects the closure of the Republican headquarters by Éric Ciotti on June 12, just before an exceptional meeting aimed at dismissing him after his controversial alliance with the National Rally.
Following the second round of the legislative elections, the right-wing bloc, comprising the Republicans and various right-wing parties, will now hold 66 seats in the National Assembly. This is a significant decrease from the more than a hundred deputies they previously had, marking the end of their position as the main opposition group.
The electoral results have also had a personal impact on Éric Ciotti. His tense smile was visible from the port of Nice, where his close-up photo was displayed on the window of his office. Despite being re-elected as the deputy for the 1st constituency of Alpes-Maritimes with around 46% of the votes, the atmosphere among his supporters was somber. A hundred supporters gathered in front of a large screen broadcasting the electoral evening of CNews, only to be disheartened by the results. Ciotti's re-election was not surprising as he led in the first round and benefited from the refusal of his rivals to withdraw.
