PSG Seeks Resolution with FFF Over Mbappé Financial Dispute
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has officially requested that the French Football Federation (FFF) address its ongoing financial dispute with star player Kylian Mbappé. This move follows a series of decisions made in favor of Mbappé by the Professional Football League (LFP). The player is currently claiming 55 million euros in unpaid wages and bonuses from the club.
The LFP's legal committee had previously recommended mediation in September, but after Mbappé declined this option, the committee ordered PSG to pay the claimed amount within a week. PSG appealed this decision, but the appeal was rejected in mid-October, confirming the obligation to pay the 55 million euros, which PSG has since refused.
PSG's strategy involves two remaining appeals before the industrial tribunal: first, the request to the FFF executive committee, and second, a potential appeal to an administrative court aimed at conciliation through the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF). The request to the FFF was submitted last week and is currently under review, with the possibility of it being denied.
Background of the Dispute
The conflict stems from an agreement made in August 2023 between Mbappé and PSG management. At that time, Mbappé was sidelined from the team due to his refusal to extend his contract, which would have allowed PSG to secure a transfer fee. Instead, he ultimately left the club on a free transfer to Real Madrid.
In the agreement, Mbappé had consented to forfeit 55 million euros in bonuses if he departed the club without a transfer fee at the end of the season. However, the validity of this agreement is now being challenged by Mbappé's camp, adding complexity to the ongoing legal proceedings.
