As the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games approach, the city is preparing for the return of athletes and teams, with the reopening of reserved lanes to facilitate transportation. The lanes, known as the VROP, will be operational until September 11, 2024, but the city aims to extend their use for carpooling beyond this date. However, the plan faces challenges, particularly from the Île-de-France region regarding traffic speed reductions.
In addition, Parisian restaurateurs and hoteliers have expressed concerns over economic losses due to traffic restrictions during the Olympics. Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced the establishment of a compensation commission, but many professionals may find it difficult to qualify for aid. The commission emphasizes that compensation will only be available for damages directly linked to state-imposed restrictions, and many requests received so far lack the necessary documentation to support claims. As the Games approach, a rebound in tourist activity could further diminish the number of eligible claims.
