The Olympic flame resumes its journey this Sunday, starting from Dreux at the crossroads between Île-de-France, Normandy, and Beauce. This marks the farewell to Normandy as the flame continues its path towards the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The relay in Dreux will involve 101 porters, beginning at Place des Oriels and concluding at Jean Bruck Stadium.
Following Dreux, the flame will travel to Châteaudun, often referred to as the 'little Venice of Beauce.' The relay will commence at Jean Macé nursery school, proceed along Boulevard Kellermann and Rue de la République, and finish at the Grands Moulins car park.
The next stop is Bonneval, where the relay will start at Pont de la Résistance and wind through historical landmarks such as the old Saint-Florentin abbey, Notre-Dame church, and Porte Saint-Roch, ending at Carrefour des Sports.
The journey will culminate in Chartres and its metropolis, including C'Chartres. The flame will start from the Colosseum and pass by the UNESCO-listed Chartres Cathedral. The procession will then head towards the Odyssey, France's largest aquatic complex. Here, swimmers from the French Federation (FFN) will perform a collective relay in the pool.
The final celebration will take place at the Chartres racecourse, offering a panoramic view of the city and the cathedral. The event will feature various festivities and activities, free and open to the public from 3:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., culminating in the lighting of the Olympic cauldron.
Notable bearers of the flame towards Chartres include Michel Cymes, a French doctor and health ambassador for the Paris 2024 Games, Yannick Souvré, a former French basketball player, and Laurence Guillou, a former French swimmer.
