Nikki Haley Endorses Trump for 2024 Presidential Election Amid Strong Reservations
Nikki Haley, the former US ambassador to the United Nations, announced on Wednesday that she will vote for former President Donald Trump in the upcoming November presidential election. Haley, who competed against Trump in the Republican primaries, expressed that while she has her reservations, she believes Trump is a better choice compared to President Joe Biden, whom she labeled a 'catastrophe.'
During an event held at the Hudson Institute in Washington, Haley laid out her priorities for the next President. 'I will elect a president whose priorities will be backing up our allies, exacting a price from our enemies, and ensuring security at the US borders. No more excuses. We need a leader who will support capitalism and freedom and understands the necessity to lower the national debt,' Haley asserted. Despite these ideals, she pointed out that Trump has not been perfect in these areas but emphasized Biden's policies as far worse.
Haley made it clear that her endorsement is not unconditional. She expects Trump to rally the millions of voters who supported her during her campaign. 'I stand behind what I said in my suspension speech. Trump would do well to reach out to those who voted for me and not just assume they will support him,' Haley stated.
Throughout the Republican primaries, Haley managed to gather significant voter support, accumulating 97 delegates. However, Trump led by a significant margin, finishing the party race with a total of 2,219 delegates. Despite her withdrawal, Haley continued to receive substantial votes in various state primaries, reflecting a division within the Republican electorate. Notably, she garnered over 21% of votes in states like Maryland, Indiana, and Arizona.
Recently, speculation arose that Trump's campaign might consider offering Haley the vice-presidential spot. However, Trump denied this on his social network platform, Truth Social, stating that the option is not being considered and wished Haley all the best. During the primary campaigns, tensions between Haley and Trump were evident as they frequently exchanged barbs.
Haley's endorsement of Trump comes at a critical time when both Trump and Biden are preparing for a rigorous election campaign. Biden has been actively trying to attract Haley's supporters, suggesting that there’s a place for them in his campaign.
