Netanyahu Addresses Leaks Scandal Impacting National Security
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly stated that his office is facing an organized campaign aimed at undermining the country's leadership amid a significant leaks scandal. This situation has prompted in-depth security investigations and multiple arrests. Netanyahu claims that sensitive information from his office has been leaked to Hamas and Hezbollah, raising serious concerns about national security.
The scandal erupted following revelations by Israeli media regarding the unauthorized disclosure of secret documents. Reports indicate that Gali Baharav-Miara, the government’s legal advisor, has approved the initiation of an investigation into Netanyahu himself, concerning two specific cases related to the leaks.
The Shin Bet security service has arrested several individuals in connection with the investigation, including a reserve officer and a spokesman from the Prime Minister's Office. The first case focuses on allegations of leaking classified documents, while the second pertains to attempts to alter protocols since the onset of the Gaza conflict on October 7, 2023.
The investigation has also uncovered that a senior adviser previously leaked top-secret documents to foreign media, despite lacking the necessary security clearance. Additionally, there are ongoing inquiries into the involvement of senior officials in publishing sensitive materials extracted from surveillance footage related to a senior army officer.
