Discover the challenges of securing official Paris 2024 merchandise and the impact of strikes in Lyon as the city prepares for the Olympic Games. Stay informed on the latest developments!

A needle in a haystack. For the purposes of this article, we set out on the trail of a basic in the supporter's kit, a classic of merchandising, an essential in the wardrobe of any self-respecting aspiring sandwich man: the tee- official shirt. We imagined it white, in cotton, stamped with the official gold Paris 2024 logo, available in a wide range of sizes and, if possible, not too expensive.

This quest for the textile holy grail begins with a simple Google search, of course. “Official Olympics 2024 t-shirt”. Simple, effective. However, this is already where things get bad: there is no shortage of sites offering the famous knitting. Decathlon and Amazon offer their version, from XS to triple XL. At Jeff Bezos, we announce the color to you: in white, for the modest sum of 25 euros, it is the number 1 seller available to you. If you want to stand out during the Olympic fortnight, choose another shade instead. Yellow won't suit everyone, gray (which shows more perspiration, you can't have everything) at least has the merit of being printed with the logo in black, undoubtedly more discreet than gold.

Too late for the Games

On the official Games website, shop.olympics.com, there again, there is no shortage of options. The version with a small logo on the chest, more discreet, is in stock, while the same model from Amazon is offered at €34. At this price, one could hope for fast shipping. The problem? It’s “shipped by manufacturer,” we’re told. And this, from July 25. The manufacturer, according to the site, is located in Bangladesh. For the Opening Ceremony on July 26, it may be short. But for the closing one, perhaps...

The minimum service should be ensured. In the metropolis of Lyon, which is hosting football matches for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games from this Wednesday, July 24, firefighters and public transport have filed strike notices.

This should not, however, affect the holding of the tests: “We will be on strike but there is continuity of public service” declared Warrant Officer Steeve Martinez, departmental president of the Autonomous Federation (FA) union. “The management is in the process of requisitioning 1,200 firefighters over the period of the Olympic Games,” said Chief Warrant Officer Rémy Chabbouh, South spokesperson.

A claimed salary bonus

While Lyon is hosting eleven group matches of the Olympic football events, the union filed a strike notice on Monday, denouncing in particular the instruction given to firefighters not to take more than two weeks of leave this summer, instead of three normally.

The unions are demanding a salary increase in the form of a bonus, explains Steeve Martinez, who regrets that they were only offered to “take on overtime” and “a bonus of 70 euros”. You should know that in the capital, Paris firefighters mobilized during the Olympics will be able to benefit from a bonus of 1,600 euros.

The State services took the decision to preventively reduce the summer break for firefighters, without guarantee of bonus payment, or even mobilization, this without consulting the communities”, supports the metropolis, which assures “ understand” the request of the firefighters but considers that it “is up to the State (…) to ensure the financing of the Olympic bonuses”.

The tram which serves the Lyon stadium at the stop The Unsa and FO public transport unions also filed strike notice on Monday for Wednesday and Thursday. According to a press release from TCL, the T7 tram, which connects the stadium to Vaulx-en-Velin, will not run on Wednesday, but bus and tram shuttles will take over.

It was sized for,” assured a TCL representative, affirming that travelers would encounter “no problems”. Five tram lines (T1, T2, T4, T5 and T6) will also be disrupted: they will not run between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and their service will end at 10:30 p.m. The metro and buses will run normally.
