Moroccans Rally for Palestinian Support on Al-Aqsa Flood Anniversary
On the first anniversary of the Al-Aqsa Flood, thousands of Moroccans gathered in Rabat to express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and their rejection of normalization with Israel. The event was organized by the "National Working Group to Support the Palestinian People," drawing participants from various political parties, civil society organizations, and trade unions. Protesters carried banners and chanted slogans such as "The people want to bring down normalization" and "Palestine is a trust and normalization is treason," highlighting their commitment to supporting resistance against the Israeli occupation.
The march served as a platform for participants to call on the international community to intervene and stop what they termed a "war of genocide" against Palestinians in Gaza. They urged the Moroccan government to cease normalization with Israel and to halt the reception of Israeli ships in Moroccan ports. This demonstration was part of a broader wave of protests that have taken place throughout the year, with over 800 solidarity activities reported since the onset of the conflict on October 7, 2023.
Prominent figures at the march included Nabil Ben Abdallah, Secretary-General of the opposition Progress and Socialism Party, who condemned the ongoing violence in Gaza and Lebanon. He emphasized the Moroccan people's unwavering support for Palestine and the need to resist normalization efforts. Abdel Rahim Al-Shaikhi, a leader of the National Working Group for Palestine, echoed these sentiments, stating that the Moroccan public would continue to protest until Palestine is liberated and normalization efforts are reversed.
The march marked a significant moment in Morocco's ongoing public support for Palestine, with demonstrators vowing to keep the pressure on their government and the international community to take action against the Israeli occupation.
