Two separate murder cases in France have resulted in life sentences for a former boxer in Agde and prison sentences for two men in Montauban.

Former Boxer Sentenced to Life for Gruesome Murder in Agde

A former boxer, aged 54, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Hérault Assize Court for the brutal murder of Évelyne, a 77-year-old septuagenarian, whose decapitated body was discovered in her Agde home in October 2021. The court's decision reflects the severity of the crime and the dangerous nature of the accused, according to the victim's family lawyer, Nathalie Langlois-Thieffry. Despite the life sentence, she emphasized that it cannot bring back the victim or erase the horrific circumstances of her death.

The accused, who had denied the charges for three years, finally confessed during the trial, attributing his previous denials to memory issues stemming from head trauma sustained during his boxing career. His confession came after he had been identified through extensive video surveillance footage. The victim had previously dismissed the accused's former wife, suspecting her husband of theft while performing maintenance work at her residence.

Sentencing of Two Men in Montauban for Former Soldier's Death

In a separate case, two men were sentenced in Montauban for their involvement in the death of Emmanuel Cueff, a former soldier, during a bar altercation on October 29-30, 2021. The sentences, eight years and one year respectively, were handed down for voluntary violence resulting in death without intent. The court found that the altercation, which occurred in front of Cueff's wife, led to his fatal injuries, exacerbated by his high blood alcohol level at the time.

One defendant admitted to striking Cueff, while the other denied kicking him while he was down. The defense characterized the incident as a

the defense characterized the incident as a 'stupid accident,' arguing that the fatal blow was not from the punches but rather from Cueff's head hitting the pavement. The victim's widow expressed satisfaction with the verdict, stating that it allows her and her children to begin the healing process after the loss of a man who dedicated 17 years of service to France.
