The renowned sports media group L'Équipe is set to debut a new 100% football digital channel, L'Équipe Live Foot, starting June 3. This new initiative, available exclusively to subscribers on L'Équipe’s website and application, will operate 24/7, broadcasting an impressive number of matches each year. The channel aims to showcase 400 matches in 2024 and expand its coverage to 700 matches by 2025, promising live commentary and replays for an immersive viewing experience.
Among the highlights to be featured are the Euro 2024 preparation matches for major European nations, excluding France, and high-profile club fixtures such as those involving Real Madrid, where Kylian Mbappé is expected to make appearances. Additionally, the channel will broadcast the qualifying matches for the African teams aiming for a spot in the 2026 World Cup, as well as the Copa America matches from June 20 to July 14, featuring superstars like Lionel Messi for Argentina and Vinicius Jr for Brazil.
In a strategic move to attract a younger audience and increase subscriber retention, L'Équipe Live Foot will cost 6.99 euros per month for access to all of the group’s media products. This competitive pricing aims to make top-tier football content more accessible globally. The channel will also cover other prestigious competitions including the Italian, German, and Spanish Cups, along with matches of the France Espoirs team starting in the fall.
L'Équipe's new digital venture is described by Jérôme Saporito, director of the group's TV division, as “complementary” to the existing L'Équipe channel. By leveraging both current broadcasting rights and new acquisitions, the channel seeks to enhance the overall sports viewing experience. Since the launch of the platform in May 2021, the group has been committed to accelerating its digital transformation, which has now materialized with the introduction of this football-focused channel.
- The L'Équipe group also remains uncertain about the broadcasting details for the next Ligue 1 season. However, viewers can anticipate watching some of the world's best players, including Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, and Vinicius Junior, through the new digital channel.
- L'Équipe’s flagship sports daily and its other properties, France Football and Vélo Magazine, continue to be integral parts of its offering. This diversification into a dedicated football channel reflects the group's innovative strategy to stay ahead in the highly competitive sports media landscape.
