Turkish actor Kivanc Tatlitug, renowned in the Arab world for his role as 'Muhannad' in the series Noor, is set to take on a new and challenging role in an upcoming series. This series will depict the life of Necdet Elmas, one of Turkey's most infamous gangsters, known for his intelligence and charisma during the 1960s. Tatlitug will not only act in the series but will also co-produce it through his production company, Campion, in collaboration with Ayapim, the company behind his recent work, Family.
The Fascinating Life of Necdet Elmas
The script for the series is being penned by writer Levent Cantic and is based on the autobiography of Elmas’ son, titled My Father Was a Gangster, but I Was a Child. The narrative promises a blend of crime and adventure, capturing the essence of life in Turkey during the 1960s. It will delve into the human aspects of Elmas, who gained notoriety for his bank heists and connections in the criminal underworld. Born in 1935 to a humble family in Konya, Elmas' life took a dramatic turn after personal tragedies led him to a life of crime.
A Tale of Crime and Redemption
Elmas' journey into the criminal world began after the heartbreaking loss of his young child to cancer. His first act of crime was stealing a car, which landed him in prison for 11 years. After multiple escapes and a series of audacious bank robberies, including a notorious heist in Fatih, Istanbul, where he stole a staggering 165,850 liras, Elmas became a household name. His story, marked by cleverness and boldness, will be a focal point of Tatlitug's portrayal, promising to resonate with audiences when the series debuts on a digital platform before airing on television.
- Kivanc Tatlitug's last project was the 2023 series 'The Family', which explored familial relationships through the character Aslan Sekoykan. He also starred in 'Last Call for Istanbul', reuniting with actress Beren Saat, known for their previous success in 'Forbidden Love'. The new series about Necdet Elmas is expected to highlight not only the criminal exploits of its protagonist but also the societal conditions that shaped his life choices.
