The Legal Committee of the Supreme Council of State in Libya has declared Khaled Al-Mishri the winner of the recent presidential elections, edging out Mohamed Takala by a narrow margin of 69 to 68 votes, amidst significant controversy surrounding a disputed ballot paper.
This legal dispute arose after a ballot paper was found to contain Takala's name written incorrectly, prompting Al-Mishri to file a grievance with the Legal Committee, which ultimately ruled the ballot invalid.
The Supreme Council of State, which plays a crucial role in Libya's political landscape, is currently navigating a complex situation with two rival governments, one recognized by the United Nations and the other appointed by the House of Representatives.
Libya's ongoing political crisis continues to hinder the possibility of presidential and parliamentary elections, as disagreements over electoral laws and the supervising body persist.
