The family of young rugby player Medhi Narjissi, missing off South Africa, pushes for an investigation into his disappearance, raising concerns about safety protocols during training.

Two weeks after the tragic disappearance of young Medhi Narjissi off the coast of South Africa, the family of the young rugby player filed a complaint with the Agen public prosecutor's office. The approach of the family of the young hopeful from Stade Toulousain aims to obtain the opening of a procedure to “search for the causes of the disappearance,” according to their lawyer.

Me Martial wants the president of the French Rugby Federation (FFR) to be heard, as well as “the entire group of the French U18 team, and in particular the players who were in the water.” The Stade Toulouse player, trained in Agen and aged 17, was swept away by strong currents while taking part in a recovery session on Dias Beach, near the Cape of Good Hope. A teammate who tried in vain to rescue him was able to return to shore unharmed, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said.

In this moment of collective union and contemplation, French rugby wishes to salute, with force and the deepest respect, the memory of one of its great hopes,” concludes the joint message from the FFR and the LNR. The first Top 14 match of the 2024-2025 season will take place on September 7.
