Joachim Son-Forget Arrest and Upcoming Trial

Joachim Son-Forget, former member of the French National Assembly, is facing significant legal troubles. Arrested on June 15 in Paris, Son-Forget, who served as a parliamentarian from 2017 to 2022, was involved in a high-speed chase with the police, resulting in numerous traffic violations, including refusal to comply, and drug-related offenses. Authorities discovered cocaine on him, and a subsequent test also returned positive results for the substance.

Escapade in Paris

Son-Forget's encounter with law enforcement began in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. Driving a powerful sedan at high speed, he was spotted by a police crew who activated their siren and flashing lights in an attempt to stop him. Instead of complying, Son-Forget made a sudden U-turn, struck a parked vehicle, and fled through lanes reserved for cyclists. His attempt to evade capture was unsuccessful as police eventually blocked his way and arrested him. On his person, police found 0.7 grams of cocaine, and the former deputy's test for the drug came back positive.

Legal Consequences and Previous Controversies

Son-Forget was brought before the public prosecutor on June 18 and has been placed under judicial supervision pending his trial scheduled for August 29. He faces serious charges including endangering the lives of others, failure to control his vehicle, driving under the influence of drugs, and hit and run after a material accident. He could face up to 5 years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros. Known for his controversial behavior, Son-Forget's past includes a series of contentious actions and statements, such as his critique of Senator EELV Esther Benbassa and involvement in the dissemination of a private video of Benjamin Griveaux.

  • Son-Forget initially arrived at the National Assembly under the La République En Marche (LREM) label in 2017. However, he transferred to the UDI group the following year. His tenure included multiple controversial incidents, highlighting his contentious political career.
  • After his political career in the National Assembly, Son-Forget aligned himself with Éric Zemmour's Reconquest. He has also been known for his social media antics and his provocative statements.
  • Son-Forget announced his candidacy for the 2022 presidential election during a segment on the television show 'Touche pas à mon poste' on C8. Nevertheless, his political journey has been marred by multiple controversial incidents and legal issues.
