Systematic Destruction and Displacement in Northern Gaza
Retired Major General Fayez Al-Duwairi has raised alarm over what he describes as a systematic process of destruction and displacement occurring in northern Gaza. He alleges that this operation is part of a broader Israeli plan supported by the U.S. administration, aimed at establishing Jewish settlements in the region. Al-Duwairi cites statements from Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who asserted that "ultimately there will be Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip," framing Gaza as integral to the land of Israel.
Al-Duwairi's analysis highlights the Israeli military's actions in northern Gaza, which he claims are designed to render the area uninhabitable. He points to the removal of ambulance and civil defense teams, the destruction of hospitals and schools, and the forced displacement of women and children to the southern part of the Strip as key components of this strategy. He warns that the situation could escalate significantly following the upcoming U.S. presidential elections, particularly if Republican candidate Donald Trump, who has expressed intentions to expand Israeli territory, is elected.
Escalation of Military Operations
The Israeli military's campaign in northern Gaza began in earnest on October 5, with extensive bombing operations targeting the Jabalia camp and surrounding areas. This was followed by a declaration of an invasion the next day, leading to a severe siege on residents in Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Beit Hanoun. Al-Duwairi notes that the military justifies its actions as necessary to prevent Hamas from regaining strength, while Palestinians contend that these measures are aimed at occupation and displacement.
Al-Duwairi emphasizes that the current phase of the Israeli plan focuses on the northern governorates, with expectations of further military actions extending to the Gaza Governorate itself. He suggests that the data available indicates a clear pattern of displacement as part of Israel's strategy in the region.
