Israeli Historian Accuses Israel of Genocide in Gaza
Israeli historian Lee Mordechai has released a comprehensive 124-page study titled "Witnessing the Israel-Gaza War," which claims to document extensive evidence of genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Drawing from thousands of sources, including eyewitness accounts, video footage, and investigative reports, Mordechai asserts that Israel's military actions constitute a war of extermination. He describes the Israeli response to the Hamas operation on October 7, 2023, as "disproportionate and completely criminal," highlighting numerous instances of massacres and indiscriminate attacks throughout the conflict.
In his study, Mordechai emphasizes the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, stating that Israel has implemented policies leading to famine and severe shortages of essential resources such as water, medicine, and electricity. He notes that these actions have dismantled Gaza's health system, resulting in preventable deaths, particularly among children. He argues that the actual death toll in Gaza is likely much higher than reported, as many deaths go unrecorded due to the chaotic conditions.
Allegations of Ethnic Cleansing
Mordechai further alleges that the Israeli government is pursuing a strategy of ethnic cleansing in Gaza, aiming to remove as many Palestinians as possible from the territory. He cites statements from senior Israeli officials that suggest a deliberate intention to facilitate this outcome. According to Mordechai, the Israeli military has systematically targeted civilian infrastructure, including universities, libraries, and religious sites, in an effort to dismantle Palestinian society.
Mordechai's findings have sparked outrage and protests globally, as many activists and organizations rally against what they perceive as Israel's racist policies and crimes against humanity. His work adds to the ongoing debate about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the broader implications of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
