Israeli Airstrikes in Gaza Result in Casualties and Humanitarian Crisis
On November 9, 2024, a series of Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip led to the deaths of 17 Palestinians, including children, and left many others injured. The airstrikes targeted various locations, including a tent housing displaced individuals at Al-Jazeera Stadium in Khan Yunis, where nine Palestinians were killed. Additionally, an airstrike on Fahd Al-Sabah School in Gaza City, which also served as a shelter for displaced people, resulted in the deaths of seven Palestinians.
Eyewitness reports indicated that artillery shelling was concentrated in the Jabalia camp and the town of Beit Lahia, with heavy gunfire from Israeli vehicles and drones observed in the area. The ongoing military operations have intensified destruction in Jabalia, which is the most densely populated refugee camp in Gaza, housing around 165,000 refugees in a compact area.
Civil Defense Under Attack and Humanitarian Concerns
The Civil Defense in Gaza reported that its crews were directly targeted by Israeli forces, leading to the abduction of nine members. This assault has severely hampered their ability to provide humanitarian and medical assistance to thousands of Palestinians in northern Gaza. Since the commencement of the ground invasion on October 5, 2023, the region has faced continuous bombings, resulting in a dire humanitarian crisis characterized by shortages of food, water, and medical supplies.
The situation in Gaza has escalated to alarming levels, with over 146,000 Palestinians reported as martyrs and wounded since the onset of the conflict, according to various sources. The international community, including the UN Security Council, has called for immediate action to cease hostilities and address the humanitarian disaster, yet reports suggest that the violence persists unchecked.
