Diplomatic Efforts to End Conflict
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has announced that Tehran is actively engaged in consultations aimed at halting the ongoing conflict in the region. In a recent interview with Al Jazeera, he emphasized the importance of collaboration with major regional powers, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar, to facilitate these discussions. Araghchi stated, "We are holding consultations on how to stop the fire and stop the massacres, killing and destruction," indicating Iran's readiness to explore diplomatic avenues through third-party nations, particularly the United States.
Iran's Stance on Regional Tensions
Addressing the escalating tensions with Israel, Araghchi expressed Iran's preparedness for any scenario, while reiterating that the country does not seek war or further escalation. He remarked, "The Israelis can test our will," suggesting that Iran's response would be contingent upon the nature of any potential attacks. He accused Israel of attempting to provoke a large-scale conflict and asserted that both Iran and other regional players are aware of the catastrophic consequences such a war would entail.
Support for Resistance Movements
During his recent Gulf tour, which included meetings with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Qatari officials, Araghchi reaffirmed Iran's unwavering support for resistance movements in the region. He noted that despite the challenges faced by these groups, particularly Hamas in Gaza, Iran's commitment remains steadfast. "Our support will not be limited to political and diplomatic support, and we will provide them with whatever they need," he stated, underscoring Iran's role as a key ally in the ongoing struggle against Israeli military actions.
