India's parliament is currently reviewing a controversial bill proposed by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that seeks to amend the Muslim Waqf Act, which governs the management of waqf properties such as mosques, graveyards, and schools. Moreover, the bill's requirement that a Muslim must be a practicing Muslim for at least five years to donate to a waqf has been criticized as discriminatory and contrary to India's secular traditions. Opposition MP Dr. Syed Nasser Hussain emphasized that the bill lacks legal coherence and was rushed through parliament without adequate stakeholder consultation.
