Human Rights Violations in Syria: A Call for Justice
Recent reports from the Syrian Network for Human Rights have revealed alarming statistics regarding the ongoing human rights violations under the regime of Bashar al-Assad. The organization has called for the ousting of Assad and his trial for crimes against humanity, citing that he is responsible for the deaths of at least 202,000 civilians, including 15,000 who died due to torture. The report highlights that 96,321 individuals have been forcibly disappeared, among them 2,329 children and 5,742 women. This grim reality underscores the urgent need for accountability and justice for the Syrian people.
The network's findings also indicate that nearly 13 million Syrians have been forcibly displaced since the conflict began in March 2011. Furthermore, the report details that over 23,000 children and 22,000 women have been killed by the regime and its allied Iranian militias during this period. The documentation of these atrocities serves as a stark reminder of the humanitarian crisis that continues to unfold in Syria, with the regime's use of chemical weapons and indiscriminate bombings exacerbating the suffering of civilians.
In a recent monitoring report, the Syrian Network for Human Rights noted that from November 27 to December 3, 2024, the regime was responsible for the deaths of 105 civilians, including 33 children and 13 women. The report also detailed the use of explosive barrels dropped by Syrian regime helicopters on civilian areas in Idlib and Hama, further illustrating the ongoing violence against innocent populations.
