Hamas Dismisses Israeli Claims of Removing Movement from Gaza
Hamas leader Izzat al-Rishq has firmly rejected claims that the movement or its leaders can be removed from Gaza, labeling such notions as an "Israeli illusion". In a statement on his Telegram account, al-Rishq responded to recent media reports suggesting that Hamas leaders might leave Gaza amid ceasefire negotiations and a potential prisoner exchange with Israel. He emphasized that Hamas remains committed to fighting against the occupation of Palestine, asserting that the idea of removing the group is merely a dream that will not materialize.
The backdrop to these statements includes circulating proposals for a ceasefire that would involve Hamas leaders and fighters relocating to Sudan. Reports indicated that this plan involves the Israeli army withdrawing from Gaza, alongside a comprehensive prisoner exchange deal, with the Palestinian Authority potentially taking over governance of the Strip. Al-Rishq reiterated that the notion of Hamas exiting Gaza is unrealistic, stating, "Logic dictates that the occupier leaves and the people of the land remain."
Despite these discussions, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to escalate, with the Israeli occupation forces being accused of committing genocide since October 7, 2023. Over 138,000 Palestinians have reportedly been killed or wounded, with a significant number being children and women. The international community has urged an immediate halt to hostilities, yet the situation remains dire as Israel persists in its military actions, disregarding UN resolutions and international law.
