Detained German Citizen Nikolai Gaiduk Linked to Terrorism Charges
Nikolai Gaiduk, a German citizen originally from Ukraine, has been detained by the FSB (Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation) on serious charges of terrorism. The FSB alleges that Gaiduk was involved in the preparation and execution of terrorist attacks on behalf of the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine). His arrest occurred after he reportedly caused an explosion at a low-pressure gas distribution station in Kaliningrad, Russia, in March 2024. Fortunately, the incident did not result in any injuries.
Gaiduk, who has lived in Germany since 1992, was apprehended while attempting to enter Kaliningrad from Poland, where he was allegedly planning further sabotage activities at energy facilities. During the search of his vehicle, authorities confiscated 0.5 liters of a liquid explosive. The investigation revealed that Gaiduk had been recruited by Alexander Zhorov, a former police lieutenant colonel from Ukraine, who provided him with explosives and instructed him on carrying out attacks against Russian targets.
Family Insights and Background
Gaiduk's relatives in Russia, who spoke to RT under the condition of anonymity, revealed that he had been living in Germany with his family for several years. They mentioned that Gaiduk had previously visited his hometown of Konotop in Ukraine and had shared his political views with them, expressing opposition to Russia and support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This led to a cessation of communication between Gaiduk and his relatives.
The FSB has released a video of Gaiduk's interrogation, where he admits to working for Ukrainian special services. He detailed how Zhorov contacted him in November 2023, asking for assistance in the fight against Russia, which culminated in the explosive attack in Kaliningrad. Gaiduk's actions have raised significant concerns regarding the involvement of Ukrainian operatives in cross-border terrorism.
Gaiduk's Life in Germany and Misidentifications
Despite the serious allegations against him, Gaiduk's life in Germany was relatively stable prior to his arrest. He was known to have connections with prominent figures, including a photograph with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz from 2012. Gaiduk's family, including his daughter who has lived in the US and Australia, has also been affected by the fallout from these events. Notably, some media outlets mistakenly identified Gaiduk as an honored coach of Ukraine in Greco-Roman wrestling, a title that actually belongs to his brother, Viktor Gaiduk.
The case of Nikolai Gaiduk highlights the complex interplay of personal histories and geopolitical tensions, as well as the potential for individuals to become embroiled in larger conflicts. As investigations continue, the implications of his actions and affiliations remain a topic of significant interest.
