Garth Brooks Faces Serious Allegations of Rape
Country music icon Garth Brooks is embroiled in a serious legal battle as a former hairdresser and makeup artist has filed a lawsuit accusing him of rape. The allegations, which date back to 2019, were brought to light in a complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on October 3, 2024. The woman, who is referred to as Jane Roe to protect her identity, claims that Brooks assaulted her in a hotel room after an event at the Grammy Awards.
According to the lawsuit, the two were alone on Brooks' private jet and shared a hotel suite during the trip from Nashville to Los Angeles. The plaintiff alleges that Brooks appeared naked at the bedroom door and raped her, proceeding to act as if nothing had occurred, even expecting her to perform her duties immediately after the incident. The complaint also details previous incidents where Brooks allegedly exposed himself and made inappropriate advances towards her.
The woman, who had worked for Brooks' wife, Trisha Yearwood, since 1999, claims that she felt compelled to continue working for Brooks due to his knowledge of her financial struggles. Her attorney, Douglas Wigdor, known for representing victims in high-profile sexual violence cases, emphasized that this situation highlights the prevalence of sexual predators in all areas of the entertainment industry, including country music.
In response to the allegations, Brooks filed a pre-trial complaint in Mississippi, alleging defamation and attempted extortion. He claims that the woman threatened to sue him unless he paid her millions to avoid prosecution. Brooks, 62, is a celebrated figure in country music, having surpassed Elvis Presley as the best-selling solo artist in the U.S. in 2015 and is known for hits like "Friends in Low Places" and "The Thunder Rolls." The case has sparked significant media attention as it unfolds.
