The euphoria is not about to subside. This Saturday, July 27 will be a milestone in the history of French rugby sevens. Opposed to the Fijians, undefeated in 17 matches in the history of the Games, the Blues rose to the challenge by winning by a wide margin (28-7). Once the Marseillaise was sung, Jérôme Daret's men took part in a little dance, in the center of the pitch at the Stade de France.
The challenge is colossal. The wait, enormous. The French rugby sevens team will challenge Fiji this Saturday (7:45 p.m.) in the final of the Olympic tournament to win the gold medal. “We don't realize it yet... In this fabulous stadium, the most beautiful in France, with an incredible audience, 69,000 people... We couldn't dream of better, confides Jordan Sepho. There’s only one thing left to do, go get that gold medal.”
The first medal in French team sport could come from rugby sevens. After a difficult first round, the Blues will play against South Africa for a place in the final.
