Three days before the launch of the Paris Olympic Games, French officials are making significant preparations to ensure the health and security of athletes and visitors. With over 15 million expected attendees in Paris, Health Minister Frédéric Valletoux has reassured the public that the French health system is fully prepared for the increased demand. He stated that 13 hospitals in the Île-de-France region will be on high alert, with 80 of the 800 services at Assistance publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) assigned to frontline duties. The health crisis center has been operational 24/7 to monitor any potential health events, including the risk of epidemics or heat peaks. Valletoux emphasized that while there is a low risk of a Covid-19 cluster, precautions are in place, including a polyclinic in the Olympic village that can handle 700 consultations per day.
Simultaneously, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin has addressed law enforcement agencies, praising their dedication during the four years of preparation for the Games. With heightened security measures in place, nearly 45,000 internal security forces, including police and private security agents, will be mobilized to ensure the safety of the event. Darmanin has urged vigilance among the security personnel, highlighting the importance of presenting a friendly and professional image to the world as France takes center stage during this global event.
As the Games approach, athletes like Dika Mem are also preparing for competition. Mem, who faced physical challenges leading up to the Games, expressed confidence in his readiness to compete against Denmark, emphasizing the importance of training and team dynamics. The upcoming matches will serve as a critical opportunity for athletes to regain their rhythm and focus as they aim for Olympic success.
