Linda Sun, a former deputy chief of staff to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, has been arrested on charges of acting as an agent for the Chinese government. The Justice Department has accused her of violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, and money laundering conspiracy, alongside her husband Chris Hu.
Prosecutors allege that Sun engaged in activities that advanced the interests of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), including blocking Taiwanese officials from accessing New York State officials and facilitating unauthorized travel for Chinese government representatives. The couple's lavish lifestyle, including a $3.5 million home on Long Island, raises questions about the source of their wealth, which prosecutors claim includes millions in bribes.
