Tragedy Strikes Bali: Two Tourists Killed by Falling Trees

A tragic incident occurred in Bali, Indonesia, on December 10, 2024, when two foreign tourists lost their lives due to falling trees in the Ubud Monkey Forest. The victims included a 32-year-old French woman and a 42-year-old South Korean man, both of whom were caught in the aftermath of strong winds and heavy rains that swept through the popular tourist destination. A 43-year-old South Korean woman was also injured during the incident and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital in Ubud for treatment.

According to Bali police spokesman Jansen Avitus Panjaitan, the severe weather conditions led to several trees collapsing in the forest, which is renowned for its long-tailed macaque monkeys and attracts numerous visitors each year. The police have urged tourists to exercise caution, especially during adverse weather conditions, as Indonesia has been experiencing a series of extreme weather events linked to climate change.

The Ubud Monkey Forest is a significant attraction for both local and international tourists, providing a unique opportunity to observe wildlife in a natural setting. However, this tragic event serves as a reminder of the potential dangers posed by nature, particularly in the context of increasing climate-related incidents.
