Major Drug Trafficking Ring Dismantled in Isère
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, authorities have dismantled a major drug dealing point located in Pontcharra, Isère, which was reportedly generating up to 100,000 euros per month. The operation, led by the Grenoble prosecutor's office, resulted in the indictment of eight individuals, including a minor, for various charges including drug trafficking, money laundering, and participation in a criminal association. Prosecutor Éric Vaillant confirmed that six of the indicted individuals are currently in provisional detention, while two others are under judicial supervision.
The investigation, which began in March 2024, targeted a well-structured organization operating in the Bayard district. Following six months of extensive surveillance and intelligence gathering, nearly 170 gendarmes executed simultaneous searches at 19 locations across Isère and Savoie on September 24. This operation led to the arrest of 13 suspects and the seizure of significant quantities of illegal substances and cash.
During the raids, law enforcement officials uncovered over 200,000 euros in cash, 1 kilogram of cannabis resin, and 800 grams of cocaine. Additionally, authorities confiscated 39 canisters of nitrous oxide, 725 packets of counterfeit cigarettes, and various firearms, including three hunting rifles and three handguns. The total value of the seized items is estimated to be in the tens of thousands of euros.
Prosecutor Vaillant emphasized the commitment to eradicating this drug dealing point and dissuading potential consumers from engaging in illegal activities. He stated that further operations are planned to ensure the sustainability of this crackdown on drug trafficking in the region.
