Rare Birth of Female Jaguar in France Sparks Conservation Hopes
On June 29, a female jaguar was born at the Parrot World animal park in Crécy-la-Chapelle, Seine-et-Marne, marking a significant event for this near-threatened species. Aude Haelewyn, the education and conservation manager at the park, expressed her excitement, stating, "The whole team is very happy; we saw the belly of our jaguar Emma grow over 14 weeks, and we were all looking forward to it." This birth is particularly noteworthy as it is the fifth jaguar born in captivity worldwide this year.
The young jaguar, who is entirely black, is reported to be in excellent health. During her first vaccination, she displayed a strong fighting spirit, weighing in at 3 kg three weeks after her birth. According to park veterinarian Franck Haelewyn, this weight is considered very suitable for her age. The baby jaguar has yet to be named, and the park plans to involve the public in the naming process through a social media vote.

When the young jaguar reaches sexual maturity, she will be relocated to another animal park, following the natural behavior of jaguars.
