When we have such exceptional results, these bonuses should not be taxed. Invited this Thursday on the set of our special Olympics program “Welcome to the Games”, the resigning Minister of the Economy, Bruno le Maire, wanted to respond to David Douillet. On RMC on Monday August 5, the former Olympic judo champion described the imposition of bonuses on French medalists as a “shame”. Indeed, each Olympic medalist will receive a bonus at the end of the Games but this will be taxable.
I will propose that they be tax-exempt in the next 2025 budget,” announced Bruno Le Maire, explaining that “these are exceptional bonuses and exceptional results. It rewards years and years of sacrifice, effort, work, it deserves exceptional treatment.” The resigning Minister of the Economy, however, clarified that “it was not up to [him] to decide, it will be up to the next majority” but that he would “prepare measures so that these bonuses are tax exempt.”
Despite missing out on a medal, Alice Finot is beaming after her Olympic race. The reason: a marriage proposal that breaks two conventions. Paris – At the Olympics in Paris, French local hero Alice Finot narrowly missed out on a medal in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase. Nevertheless, she was a beaming winner after the race. She proposed to her boyfriend Bruno Martínez Bargiela in the stadium – and he accepted.
In the stadium: Olympic athlete kneels after race. Finot, 33, the reigning European champion, finished the race in a European record time of 8:58:67 minutes, securing fourth place. After the race, she went to the stands at the Stade de France, where her partner was supporting her, and proposed to him.
Finot had previously explained: 'I said to myself: If I run under nine minutes - nine is my lucky number and we have been together for nine years - then I will propose to him.' She kept her word and Martínez Bargiela happily accepted the proposal. The surrounding coaches and fans were happy for the newly engaged couple.
Fans congratulated Finot on her engagement on the online platform X (formerly Twitter) and described the marriage proposal as 'one of the best moments' of the games. 'That's sweet. He should be proud of her,' wrote one user enthusiastically.
