Biniam Girmay Shines Again in the Tour de France
After making history on Monday as the first Eritrean rider to win a Tour de France stage, Biniam Girmay from the Intermarché-Circus-Wanty team continued his impressive performance on Saturday in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises. Girmay sprinted past Belgian riders Jasper Philipsen and Arnaud de Lie, consolidating his lead in the green jersey rankings with 88 points more than his closest competitor, Philipsen. Girmay expressed his joy and dedication to his parents, stating, "I am very proud to win a stage with this green jersey. I have already achieved all my dreams, I hope to continue like this until Nice."
Jonas Abrahamsen Dominates Mountain Classification
Norwegian rider Jonas Abrahamsen from Uno-X Mobility had an exceptional day, starting from kilometer zero alongside Powless and Bissegger. Abrahamsen distanced his breakaway companions and took the lead on all five listed climbs, extending his lead in the mountain classification with a total of 33 points, 13 points ahead of Tadej Pogacar. His solo effort also saw him win the intermediate sprint in Lamargelle before being caught 14 kilometers from the finish line. Abrahamsen's relentless effort has made him a standout performer in the first week of the Tour de France, and he is a strong candidate for the most combative rider award.
French rider Bryan Coquard from Cofidis had a challenging day, launching his sprint too early and finishing in 32nd place. Despite his efforts, Coquard received praise from Girmay for his team's work. Meanwhile, the Lidl-Trek team announced the withdrawal of their sprinter Mads Pedersen due to injuries sustained in a previous stage. Pedersen expressed his disappointment but emphasized the need to rest and recover.
