Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani has been appointed as Syria's first Foreign Minister following the fall of President Bashar Al-Assad, marking a new chapter in the country's governance.

The Syrian caretaker government has appointed Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, marking a significant shift in the country's political landscape following the fall of President Bashar Al-Assad. This appointment is historic as Al-Shaibani is the first individual to hold this position since the regime's collapse, which occurred on December 8, 2024, when various Syrian factions seized control of the capital, Damascus, and other key cities, effectively ending over six decades of Baath Party rule and 53 years of Assad family dominance.

Al-Shaibani, 37, hails from Al-Hasakah Governorate and has an academic background in English Language and Literature as well as Political Science and Foreign Relations. His political career began with the Syrian revolution in 2011, and he played a crucial role in establishing the Salvation Government in northern Syria. He has also been instrumental in fostering relationships with the United Nations and facilitating humanitarian efforts in the region.

The appointment of Al-Shaibani follows the recent appointment of Aisha al-Debs as the first woman to hold an official position in the new Syrian administration, indicating a potential shift towards more inclusive governance in the post-Assad era.
