Argentina's Copa América Squad Announced
The Argentine National Team has finalized its 26-player roster for the upcoming Copa América. Recovering the majority of their squad from the victorious 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar, the team is poised to defend their 2021 Copa América title. Notable new addition Valentín Carboni has impressed both in training and during a friendly against Guatemala, earning him the number 21 jersey, previously worn by Paulo Dybala in Qatar.
The official team numbers were released by Conmebol, maintaining the same numbers for the 21 World Cup winners. Lucas Martínez Quarta will wear the number 2 jersey, previously owned by Juan Foyth, while Nicolás González reclaimed the number 15 jersey after Ángel Correa was left out due to the final squad cut. Other notable changes include Giovani Lo Celso taking the number 16 jersey and Alejandro Garnacho getting the number 17. The full squad lists players from various top-tier clubs, including Lionel Messi sporting the iconic number 10.
Ronaldinho's Criticism of Brazilian Football
Meanwhile, former Brazilian star Ronaldinho has openly criticized Brazil's preparations for the Copa América. Expressing his disappointment, the 2005 Ballon d'Or winner stated he would not be watching any matches due to what he perceives as a lack of determination, joy, and effective management in the current squad. He harshly criticized the Brazilian Football Federation, coach Dorival Junior, and the current squad members, following their disappointing draw against the United States.
Ronaldinho's comments underscore a deep-seated frustration with the current state of Brazilian football. Despite the presence of talented players like Vinicius, Marquinhos, Beraldo, and young sensation Endrick, he feels the team is woefully unprepared and lacking in passion. Brazil begins their Copa América campaign against Costa Rica on June 24, also facing Colombia and Paraguay in Group D.
- As the Copa América approaches, both Argentina and Brazil carry significant expectations. Argentina looks to continue their recent successes under manager Lionel Scaloni, leveraging the established chemistry of their World Cup-winning squad along with fresh talent like Valentín Carboni.
- Brazil, on the other hand, faces internal criticism and pressure to perform better. With Ronaldinho's disapproving remarks ringing in the background, the Seleçao will need to prove their resilience and capability in the continental competition.
