Algeria's President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has been re-elected with a commanding 94.65% of the votes, solidifying his position for a second term. The National Election Authority's announcement reflects a significant turnout of 48.03% in the recent elections, surpassing previous participation rates. This election saw candidates Abdelali Hassani Cherif and Youssef Ouchich receiving 3.17% and 2.16% of the votes respectively, highlighting the overwhelming support for Tebboune.
The electoral process was praised for its peaceful nature, with 6,689 campaign activities reported, including numerous rallies across Algeria. The head of the National Independent Authority for Presidential Elections, Mohamed Charfi, noted that the participation rate among the Algerian diaspora was 19.57%, indicating a growing interest in the political process among citizens abroad. The elections were initially set for December but were moved up to September following a decision by Tebboune earlier this year.
