The Television Academy has announced the nominations for the 76th Emmy Awards, which will be broadcast live on September 15. Leading the charge are the hit series 'Shogun' with 25 nominations and 'The Bear' with 23 nominations, setting new records in their respective categories.
Record-Breaking Nominations
'The Bear,' despite receiving lukewarm reviews for its third season, has made history by securing 23 nominations, the highest ever for a comedy series. The previous record was held by '30 Rock' with 22 nominations in 2009. Jeremy Allen White, who plays the tormented chef Carmen 'Carmy' Berzatto, is up for Best Leading Actor, while Ayo Edebiri, who portrays sous-chef Sydney Adamu, is nominated for Best Actress.
'The Bear,' created by Christopher Storer, is nominated alongside 'Abbott Elementary,' the last season of 'Curb Your Enthusiasm,' 'Hacks,' 'Palm Royale,' 'Reservation Dogs,' and 'What We Do in the Shadows.' The show has also garnered nominations for screenplay, casting, and performances by Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Lionel Boyce, and Liza Colón-Zayas. Guest actors Jon Bernthal, Bob Odenkirk, Will Poulter, Olivia Colman, and Jamie Lee Curtis are also in the running.
'Shogun' Dominates Drama Category
In the drama series category, 'Shogun' leads with 25 nominations, a record for this edition. Other nominees in the best drama series category include 'Fallout,' '3 Body Problem,' 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith,' HBO's 'The Gilded Age,' the British series 'Slow Horses,' 'The Morning Show,' and the final season of 'The Crown.'
