Storm Kirk: Loir-et-Cher Remains on Orange Flood Alert Amid Calm Waters

Loir-et-Cher remains on orange flood alert following Storm Kirk, while other regions see a decrease in flood warnings. Light rains are forecasted, but significant flooding persists in the Vendôme area.

Storm Kirk Leaves Loir-et-Cher on Orange Flood Alert

The aftermath of Storm Kirk has led to a relatively calm situation across many flooded rivers this Sunday morning, according to Météo France. However, the Loir-et-Cher region remains on orange flood alert. The flood alert for Eure-et-Loir has been downgraded to yellow as the vigilance level for the upstream Eure section has also been lowered, as reported by the government agency Vigicrues.

Despite the overall calm, a significant flood is still affecting the Loir Vendômois area in Loir-et-Cher. Vigicrues noted that the flood levels reached their peak on Saturday evening, and while a decline has begun, water levels remain dangerously high. The maximum flood level is expected to hit Villavard later today, potentially causing damaging overflow levels.

The weather forecast indicates light rains for the north of France on Sunday and Monday, which are not expected to disrupt the current trend of receding river levels. This comes after a notably wet September, which was the wettest in 25 years, leading to cumulative precipitation levels exceeding averages across much of metropolitan France.
