The Malaysian government has reported three fatalities and the evacuation of over 80,000 residents due to severe flooding, marking the worst floods in a decade. The floods have primarily affected the northeastern state of Kelantan and the east coast state of Terengganu, with ongoing heavy rains prompting further evacuations. Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that the current flooding is expected to surpass the severity of the 2014 floods, which displaced over a quarter of a million people. In response, the government has mobilized more than 82,000 security personnel and set up 467 temporary shelters across seven states to accommodate those affected. The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued warnings for continued heavy rainfall in the region, exacerbating the crisis.
